Stepping into Purpose: My New Journey as a Sanford Herald Columnist

Some moments in life feel like divine timing wrapped in newspaper print. Becoming a Sanford Herald columnist is one of those moments for me. This isn’t just a new role—it’s the realization of a lifelong dream: to write, reflect, and inspire others through the power of storytelling.

Hi, I’m Lin Green—an author, community advocate, speaker, and the heart behind Issalivestyle by Lin Green. Many of you know me as the woman who wrote Enough with the Secrets, Mama!—a memoir about healing, immigrant roots, and breaking generational cycles. What began as personal pages in a journal blossomed into a Times Square-featured book and now, a weekly space to reach readers throughout Sanford and beyond.

If you’re wondering where all this passion for Sanford came from, allow me to point you to my first column: “A Love Letter to Sanford: Where the Journey Began.”

The first time I drove through Sanford, I felt like I had entered the set of a nostalgic film—wraparound porches, tall trees, and Southern charm you can feel. It made sense later when I learned My Girl had been filmed here. But the real magic wasn’t just in the scenery. It was in the people. The first friends I made were fellow advocates—people who cared deeply about kids, families, and community healing.

Sanford welcomed me when I was a young case manager with the Department of Juvenile Justice, and in return, I poured my heart into its youth and families. That “job” became a mission. That mission became a memoir. And that memoir led to this moment—writing for a paper that has served this city for generations. Let me tell you—this journey into journalism? It’s been a long time coming.

From Memoir to Media

For years, I tucked away stories in notebooks between raising my son as a single mother, becoming a veterans wife, working in crisis intervention, and pouring into my community. I’ve always believed in the sacredness of truth-telling. But something about seeing my first column printed in the Sanford Herald hit different. It felt like standing on a mountaintop after climbing a long, winding road paved with resilience, faith, and a whole lot of prayer.

When my book was published, I knew it was just the beginning. That memoir opened doors—not just for me, but for the women and families who saw themselves in the chapters. Now, this columnist role gives me a platform to keep shining a light on real stories: of healing, hope, local heroes, and heart-led leadership right here in Central Florida.

Writing with Purpose, for the People

I’ve always said: inspiration is my ministry. So, every article I write isn’t just news—it’s nourishment for the soul.

You may have caught my first few articles in the Opinion section:

  • In The Power of Community, I talked about the small acts of service that keep Sanford’s heart beating.
  • In Lighting the Way Through Community, I introduced readers to Ladies 327, Inc., a nonprofit that proves what women can do when they lead with purpose and a pinch of sass.

These aren’t just features—they’re reminders that you don’t have to look far to find hope, healing, or the power of one voice to make a difference.

A New Chapter Begins (with Ink on My Hands)

As a woman who’s spent decades advocating behind the scenes, this chance to merge advocacy with authorship is a full-circle moment. I get to do what I love—write—while celebrating the people and possibilities that make Sanford & Central Florida a special place.

For aspiring writers out there, let this be proof that it’s never too late to step into your calling. Whether you’re journaling at midnight or typing between Zoom calls, your words matter. Your voice matters. Keep writing. Keep dreaming. Keep going.

Stay Tuned—We’re Just Getting Started

In upcoming articles, I’ll be sharing stories of resilience, local change-makers, nonprofit spotlights, and real talk on healing, identity, and leadership. This isn’t just a column—it’s a community conversation, and I want you right in the middle of it.

So go ahead—bookmark the Sanford Herald Opinion section. Follow along at Issalivestyle.com . Let’s lift each other, laugh through the hard stuff, and live inspired.

Because in the end? It’s not just about telling stories. It’s about telling ours.

As always, I hope this message has encouraged you. To live your life to the best of your ability. To shine brighter each day and be your best self.
